I'm liking this idea.
As some one who hardly makes clothing on characters I'm not sure how much help I could offer but here it goes any~

This here is the only article of "clothing" I've ever done on a character~ Though it did take a while to get it right.

I suggest once you have finished the pelt and pretty much the body of your character with fur and markings, you make a new layer & sketch how you want the clothing to look/work.

Leaving and re-entering the game to see how it all fits till the sketch is done so you can move onto outlining it and coloring.

That's all I have for any future clothing how-to's on animal models, hope it helped some

forgot to mention to study how a a saddle would look, maybe multiple ones to combine and make a unique one.
