Solved Screen and character creation halp? o-o

Hiyo ;u; the screenies make this game look hella fun,
But so far it won't let me type the name in for my character, which leads to me unable to get any further than that with character creation xD. So basically I can't make a character 'cause it won't let me type in a name for it o-o. So I can't play ;u; how to fix?

Also is the game not supposed to be widescreen? Because it just sits in this little box and doesn't like.. take up the screen. Like it's full screen, but the game itself isnt and has black boxes on both sides to make it a square screen lol.

 

Actually I think I just fixed it by choosing Direct in the startup instead of Open xD
